When Esau was forty years old he married Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite; and they brought grief to Isaac and Rebekah. Genesis 26:35

I want to be actively involved in my children’s choosing of a spouse! After God repeated his covenant with Abraham to Isaac, we see his son Esau bring grief to the family in the choosing of Hittite wives. The covenant was “I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My laws.” Esau didn’t realize his choice was messing up God’s plans to bless the world. In foreknowledge, God would fulfill his covenant through Jacob.

Second in importance to my relationship with God, is my relationship with my wife. Its where love is expressed, a partnership formed, and a home established. That’s why I pray and try to discern God’s will for my kids. I introduce them to godly prospective spouses and I inspire them to find that person in the life of the church.

God, I am so glad someone cared enough about me to do the same. I thank you for the wife You have given me. May I each day recognize the gift that she is and be filled with happiness. I praise You for what You have done for Kai. I pray that Eden, Keanu and Kaenan may be just as fortunate.
