Are you a soul with a body? Or a body with a soul? Isn’t that the same question? How we see ourselves impacts our expectations of ourselves. I have done some dishonorable things in my life. How about you? I believe the closer I am to God, the less that would define my life. One aspect of God’s will for us is that we learn how to do fewer dishonorable things with our body in response to its natural lusts and the allurements of this world. Why? Because living for our own wants, needs, and desires will often cause us to violate or ‘take advantage’ of other people. Particularly in the area of sexual sin, we mess with people’s deepest emotions and very identity. God has something much greater for all of us.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; and that no one violate the rights and take advantage of his brother or sister in the matter, because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you previously and solemnly warned you. 1 Thessalonians 3:3-6 NASB
What kind of student am I? How am I discovering how to live as a spiritual man and not merely a fleshly one?
God, as this day begins- I thank You that the warning from the Apostle Paul is still applicable today. I want to do Your will. Teach me how to shine as spiritual man who is sanctified and ready for Your good works in the world. Thank you that You’ve provided me with a wonderful and beautiful wife who is the genuine article. I have no need for counterfeits. Now, let’s go make a difference for the kingdom. My body and soul are sanctified by Your Truth.
