But the people said to Saul, “Must Jonathan die, who has brought about this great deliverance in Israel? Far from it! As the LORD lives, not one hair of his head shall fall to the ground, for he has worked with God this day.” So the people rescued Jonathan and he did not die. I Samuel 14:45
Jesus warned about making oaths. Saul made an oath he couldn’t keep. He instructed the warriors that they were not to eat until evening after the battle. Violating was death. Jonathan didn’t hear the oath and violated it. Fortunately, he did it in ignorance and after a mighty victory that he himself initiated. So the people protected him.
Have I made rash oaths that need to be revoked?
Lord, protect me from making oaths and promises I can’t keep and that would be an undue burden upon others. Walk with me today, so that I might please You.
