Rich Toward God

I’ve met very successful, nice, charismatic people. Their talent and often genuine concern for others made them attractive and often rich. Nothing wrong with that. But, sometimes they lack the one thing they really need- to be rich toward God. Even though they wonderfully fulfill the second great command- love thy neighbor as thyself. They have skipped the first! Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Jesus met someone like that. They parted ways in sadness. Oh, I hope we all can be rich toward God and of course each other as well.

A ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”  But Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.  You know the commandments, ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not give false testimony, Honor your father and mother.’”  And he said, “All these things I have kept since my youth.”  Now when Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”  But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely wealthy. Luke 18:18-23 NASB

Is God really first in my life? Do I love Him with all I am and all that I have?

God, as this day begins- I again commit all I am and have to Your control, Your kingdom. I am but a steward. Find me faithful. May my love for You be evident in the way I speak, think, love and live!
