Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed, and saw the tomb and how His body laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment. Luke 23:55-56
Jesus was crucified. Joseph of Arimithea put Jesus body in his own unused tomb. The women began burial preparation by getting the spices and perfumes ready, but ran out of time. So according to the commandment, they returned home to rest for the Sabbath. Little did they know that Jesus made a way for them to enter into the ‘rest of the Lord’. His death on the cross paid the penalty for their sin. Sabbath was fulfilled.
Have I entered the rest of the Lord? Yes, because I have put my faith and trust is the One who died and rose again. I no longer work or rest for righteousnes, for I am declared righteous based on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. I have true, eternal, spiritual rest.
Jesus, you made it all possible by your saving work on the cross. Thank you that you went all the way for me. I praise You that every day is a Sabbath rest for me.
