Resolutions Worth Making

The words of King Lemuel, the oracle which his mother taught him: What, O my son?
And what, O son of my womb?
And what, O son of my vows?
Do not give your strength to women,
Or your ways to that which destroys kings.
It is not for kings, O Lemuel,
It is not for kings to drink wine,
Or for rulers to desire strong drink,
For they will drink and forget what is decreed,
And pervert the rights of all the afflicted. Proverbs 31:1-5

Want to make two really smart new year’s resolutions? Stop getting drunk and chasing women! That’s what Lemuel learned from his mom. The problem with a drunk leader is they forget what they promised and lose credibility. And the problem with chasing women is it takes up valuable time and money that could be devoted to something better. These are things that destroy kings. If you and I are going to fulfill God’s call on our life- we will do much better to give our affection to one woman (hopefully one described in the remainder of this proverb) and refrain from drunkenness. Who wants to make that new year’s resolution?!!!

How has alcohol affected my family? What blessings have come from marrying an amazing Proverbs 31 woman?

God, as this year comes to an end… wow! I thank you for Your love and mercy, great blessings and that You have been faithful. May I be more like Christ in 2020 than ever before. Help me become who You want me to be and fulfill the great call on my life. Thank you that I have a lovely wife as a partner in life and ministry.

And as an added bonus: Here are the resolutions of the great Jonathan Edwards:
