If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be cast into the eternal fire.
If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into the fiery hell. Matthew 18:8-9
Jesus said that stumbling blocks come in the world. Don’t add to them by making your own. A stumbling block is anything preventing us from full devotion to God. In other words, anything that would lead to sin. The amazing Susanna Wesley wrote “Whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, takes off your relish for spiritual things, whatever increases the authority of the body over the mind, that thing is sin to you, however innocent it may seem in itself.”
Are there any stumbling blocks that I have allowed in my life? How quickly can I remove them?
God, I want to walk closely with You. I want to accomplish the great purposes for which I was made, in the strength provided by You and supplemented by Your mighty power within me by the accompanying presence of Your Spirit. I want to see miracles. So, please reveal any stumbling blocks so I may remove them far from my life (and others who may follow my example). Today, as I spend time with friends and family, would you make our conversation sweet, joy full and memories rich?
