Recognizing Talent

talentNow the war against the Philistines was severe all the days of Saul; and when Saul saw any mighty man or any valiant man, he attached him to his staff. 1 Samuel 14:52

King Saul had some amazing qualities. He also had some significant insecurities, impatience, poor decision-making skills and ultimately, he wouldn’t finish well. But notice one very wise thing he did… he gathered a good team of people around him. War was constantly raging around him, so he attached to his staff any might man or valiant man he could. He recognized talent. Ironically, he seemed to always see through natural eyes, not spiritual eyes. Samuel was the one who chose David. Saul would have missed David in the early years.

How about me? In my role as a father, pastor, superintendent and businessman… am I recognizing the god-given talent around me? Have I ‘attached them to my staff’?

Lord Jesus, I hope that I am that to someone else… a might many of valor. Who have you put around me that I should recognize, train, activate, or just get out of their way and let them rise up and shine for You? God I bless You today. I acknowledge that as a man, I don’t see as You see. Jesus came unto His own, and they knew Him not. Don’t let me fail to recognize talent.
