There have been times where I have failed to speak up for the Lord, righteousness, etc. and simply concealed my Christian faith and allegiance to Jesus. How about you? Other times, I have unequivocally and at some cost, identified with Him. The same has been true of other believers who were facing persecution and possible death. They “recanted” their faith, sometimes while their brethren perished at their side holding fast their profession. Peter initially failed. He was under direct assault from the enemy of his soul. Jesus predicted it. But, Peter was reminded, when you return, strengthen your brothers. Wow! God redeems. And for any of us who have “shrunk back” from our faith, He can make us bolder than ever!
Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to sift you men like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail; and you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death!” But He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.” Luke 22: 31-34 NASB
When was the last time I stood up for the Lord against hostile adversaries? How can my failures in the past, inform me today?
God, as this day begins- I am grateful for Your redeeming power and faithfulness. Oh, I pray that I would not deny you in word or in deed. May I reflect Your love and truth no matter where I am, or who I am with.
