See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. 1 John 3:1-3
My kids make me proud. I am happy to have them identify with me and the name “Husen”. I hope they live their lives as a reflection of the love my wife and I have for them as their parents. I wonder if I embarrass my Heavenly Father or at moments make Him proud?
Anyone remember the song “behold what manner of love, the Father, has given unto us. That we should be called the sons of God”? In that song, that comes from this scripture, we are reminded that God has lovingly adopted us into His family. Its a crazy thought. Motivated by a great and overflowing love, God called us out of the world into His kingdom of light and family and identifies us as His children. We will one day see His return (or go to Him) and see Him as He is. This great hope is a motivation toward purity.
How strongly do I strive for purity? Is there a genuine anticipation of seeing the return of the Lord Jesus?
God, as this day begins- I commit the thoughts of my mind, the intentions of my heart, and the focus of my eyes toward ‘things that are pure’. I will think on them as I fill my heart with godliness, so that I might be pure as You are pure.
