Prepare To Suffer, And Don’t Back Down

I grew up with two brothers. We played a lot and fought a fair amount with each other too. When we played sports, we played to win! I am not so sure Christians are playing to win anymore. What is the point of playing anything if you don’t play by the rules with the intent to win. In this season in America, Christians are losing the culture, our own fidelity, sanctity, and saltiness and I fear when real persecution comes, many will recant their faith in Christ altogether. We know that narrow is the way that leads to salvation. We understand we are in a cosmic battle between good and evil. But, some have forgotten their citizenship. Its heaven, not here. We are sojourners here. I recommend that we stop trying to fit in. Its dangerous for us and offensive to the king of heaven. Christian, prepare to suffer and don’t back down!

Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.  Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself. For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him. We are in this struggle together. You have seen my struggle in the past, and you know that I am still in the midst of it. Philippians 1:27-30 NLT

With what “new” cultural norms do I find myself in compromise? Is my first tendency to see things from God’s perspective or to please men?

God, as this day begins- there is a fire inside me. I see my beloved country deteriorating in every way. And yet, I am not missing that You are saving a remnant for Yourself. Help me live and love as heaven commands so that I will be fully prepared to enter in. Use me to fight for the faith and truth itself. And when suffering comes… and it looks to be on the horizon, may I suffer without regret for Your sake.
