Save us, O Lord our God,
And gather us from among the nations,
To give thanks to Your holy name
And glory in Your praise.
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
From everlasting even to everlasting.
And let all the people say, “Amen.”
Praise the Lord! Psalm 106:47-48
After recounting how God saved Israel and brought them our of Egypt, he tells of their compromising ways. This is their history. And yet David reminds God of His loving kindness and asks Him to gather them together again as a mighty nation. Why? To give thanks to His holy name. This is the heart and understanding of David. He sees his people for their many sins (and acknowledges his own), but relies upon God’s goodness and mercy.
How about me? Do I see things as they really are? Do I see my part in national sin? Do I trust in His mercy and ask for God to make our nation one that gives thanks to His holy name again?
God, please restore our nation as one that loves You. More than that… restore the church in America to one that gives thanks to Your holy name. May I recognize how wonderful You are, the miracles You have done, and say “Amen”, praise the Lord!
