Little children, guard yourselves from idols. 1 John 5:21
My brothers and I, and now, my children and I love to play board games like “Risk”. God has given us His Word, His Spirit, and one another as great assets to live this life in a manner worthy of the our Savior. John’s epistle reminds us of all of this and implores us in closing… “guard yourselves from idols”. How fascinating that he would circle back to the second commandment delivered by Moses. (Exodus 20:4)
How are my internal and external defenses? Have I added demonstrated the proper value for what God has done in my life, by doing the same? I believe so. Over time, I have seen the weaknesses of my flesh and will and removed temptation and access to idols.
Lord Jesus, Oh, how you have blessed me. I sense You leading and guiding me each day. I treasure the Bible and the account of how God has interacted with mankind since the beginning. All of this is an expression of Your love. I will guard myself from idols as an expression of my love for You.
