I have some new endeavors and plans for worldly riches in this new year. The truth is, there are always opportunities for riches in our world. My better plans involve how to be ‘rich toward God’… and to use my time, gifts, and talent for His kingdom, serving His people, and sharing His love. The tension inside me is… Which will get my affections and best effort? We spend lots of time talking, envisioning, striving, working, fixing, going, selling, buying, etc. for our worldly riches. That’s necessary to a certain degree. But, how much effort are we giving to plans for spiritual riches?
And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive. And he began thinking to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and I will store all my grain and my goods there. And I will say to myself, “You have many goods stored up for many years to come; relax, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself!”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is demanded of you; and as for all that you have prepared, who will own it now?’ Such is the one who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich in relation to God.” Luke 12:16-21 NASB
What does God desire to develop in my life this new year? In what ways can I be involved in His kingdom coming to earth?
God, as this day begins, You’ve afforded me such freedom in choosing the best use of time, energy, and passion. May I be pleasing to You in what I decide. May Your kingdom come and Your name glorified in my choices. Would you bless my efforts? And my efforts bless You!!!
