Phony

Nobody likes phoniness and hypocrisy, not in themselves, and especially not in leaders. When those in positions of authority require others to do or refrain from doing something, but they themselves are exempted, they lose a certain amount of credibility. That’s what had happened with the Jewish religious leaders (scribes, Pharisees, lawyers) in Jesus day. He called them out for their hypocrisy- and they did not like it. Gentle Jesus, pronounced long overdue ‘woes’ upon them.

But He said, “Woe to you lawyers as well! For you load people with burdens that are hard to bear, while you yourselves will not even touch the burdens with one of your fingers. When He left that place, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to interrogate Him about many subjects, plotting against Him to catch Him in something He might say.  Luke 11:46; 53-54

How is my integrity? Am I consistent is what I say and do?

God, as this Sunday begins- bless the Christ centered, Bible believing churches in our area. Oh, we need Your fresh infusion of life, love, and energy. Use each pulpit to encourage, challenge, and illuminate your people. Prepare us for the week ahead. Please give me favor with the congregation at Olive Branch.
