Know well the condition of your flocks and pay attention to your herds;
For riches are not forever, nor does a crown endure to all generations. Proverbs 27:23-24
This admonition to shepherds is worth heeding as a Christian leader and pastor. We are to know the condition of those we serve and pay attention to their spiritual needs and growth. I love how this passage is followed by the reminder that things in life change and those who are “crowned” in one season, most likely will not pass on their leadership to whom they choose. But, God lifts up and abases leaders.
Lord, have I discerned the spiritual condition of those who are part of the ministry of the school? Is the staff growing in their faith and intimacy with You because I model healthy spirituality?
God, what an immense and important calling to lead this school and inspire our staff, children and parents in a passionate commitment to Christ, Cause and Community. Oh, I desire that You would work within me and prepare me moment by moment to make decisions and foster godliness in this place.
