passoverIt is a night to be observed for the Lord for having brought them out from the land of Egypt; this night is for the Lord, to be observed by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations. Exodus 12:42

The sparing of the Hebrew people on passover and the beginning of the release from captivity to Egypt would become an annual celebration. It is bittersweet, even as it symbolizes what we have realized in Jesus’ death on the cross for us. He is our passover lamb that frees us from sin and bondage, both the penalty and power of it.

God, today when I remember Jesus while taking communion, may the unleavened bread remind me of what You have done from the beginning to bring about salvation. As I drink the juice, I will celebrate what Jesus’ blood did to purchase and ransom me from the penalty of my sin. I will rejoice that You have saved me.
