Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test? 2 Corinthians 13:5
Have you ever failed a test? Ughh, its embarrassing and disheartening and in some cases disqualifying for future opportunities. There is one test I certainly want to pass. Its the test that Paul refers to in his closing remarks to the Corinthian church. He says to examine yourselves to see if you are “in the faith”. Paul wanted to be sure that his admonitions toward becoming a complete and mature Christian were being heeded. Of course, only a Spirit-filled believer in Christ has any hope in seeing our weaknesses redeemed. How do I know if I am in the faith? The first and definitive test is this: Is Jesus Christ in me? This is a test that impacts all eternity.
Am I in the faith? Is Christ in me? When did I open my heart and invite Him in?
God, as this day begins, may it be apparent to You and any who observe, that I am in the faith. I pray today in general for those in Florida and Houston who are recovering from disaster. Strengthen them and encourage them. Use the relief efforts of the government and individuals and organizations like Samaritans Purse. Here at home, please continue to bring me and others to maturity as you perfect us in Christ. Thank you that Jesus is my tutor and example in all things. I want to pass the test.
