But of the Son He says,
You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the works of Your hands;
They will perish, but You remain;
And they all will become old like a garment,
And like a mantle You will roll them up;
Like a garment they will also be changed.
But You are the same,
And Your years will not come to an end.” Hebrews 1:8,10-12
My friend and pastor from years ago, Barry McMurtrie, would remind us that Jesus is not just ‘better than’ any other religious leader. He is ‘different from’ anyone else that has ever lived… He is categorically unique as the Son of God. The author of Hebrews begins to make that clear by first comparing Jesus to angels. No angel is called His Son. No angel made the heavens and the earth. Jesus is uniquely divine. The co-equal, co-eternal, second person of the triune Godhead.
What place does Jesus have in my life? Do I hold Him in the esteem He deserves?
Lord Jesus, on this Thanksgiving Day, I bless You and exalt Your name. Your’s is the name above all names. May this day be filled with joy and friendship, family and love. Thank you for new baby Kennedy who has come into our lives. Kasey is such a blessing along with her mom Stella and entire family. Thank you for my friend Peter and his birthday today. Thank you for my lovely wife (we marvel at how fast time flies by and wonder if we will know each other in heaven like we do here). Thank you for number one son, Kai… what a stellar young example of godliness and character. I bless you for Eden, my Iggy Bear, as she shines with creativity and artistic flair and sense of humor. I praise you for Keanu- ‘Yoggy’ and his heart of service, mind for philosophy, gift of music and ability to write music and serve the church. And finally for Kaenan- the amazing man of integrity, energy, intelligence, and calling to serve in the public square. Can’t wait to see what You have planned for all of us this next year!!! May You be the One who is paramount in our lives.
