Proverbs 14
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable, but the mouth of fools spouts folly. v1-2
A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but the slow to anger calms a dispute. v18
A man has joy in an apt answer, and how delightful is a timely word! v23
Responding to angry people by guarding our language can make huge differences in our relationships and can go along way to change the tone of a conversation. Gentle, wise, patient, calm, well-fit, and timely words are powerful tools. The Bible reminds us that the goal of godly communication is edification of the hearer. If any man speaks he should do so as the oracle of God.
How mature am I in this area? Would others consider what I say helpful?
God, thank you for Jesus example who was reviled, yet reviled not in return. Please continue to grow me in this area. I hope people feel like they are talking with Jesus, when they talk with me.
