You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. 2 Timothy 2:1-4
Some refuse to believe there is a great cosmic battle that is happening all around us. They fail to realize we have been born into an emergency and we are in the midst of the human rebellion against God. In a very real sense we who have repented and returned to our King find ourselves within a world that is often contrary to Him, moving away from His Word and His ways.
The apostle Paul addresses Timothy as one enlisted in the great army of God. He reminds him that his mission is so critical that he is not to get caught up with civilian affairs. This life in Christ will be accompanied by hardships suffered and the faithful will one day be rewarded by pleasing our commander- the Lord Jesus.
Where are the men that I am entrusting with the gospel? Am I a good soldier?
Lord Jesus, this life and message I carry is based on love, but it is shared in a hostile world and cosmic battle between good and evil. I pray today I will useful in Your kingdom and that I might find faithful men to entrust what You have imparted to me. Thank you for my sons and daughter. May each of them grow strong and true in You. Help me remain unencumbered by worldly lusts or affairs of everyday life that would deter me from fulfilling Your mission.
