We have to make judgments about issues, people, and the world we live in just about every day. But, judging other people (especially their motives) is a risky business. Jesus warned that the way we judge others, we ourselves will be judged by the same standard. When you become a Christian, the Supreme Judge of the World (Christ, Jesus) is our judge. We find a freedom in Christ to live by the Word of God and empowered by the Spirit of God. So, the elementary rules of the world no longer apply. Therefore, we are not bound by the judgments of others in the areas of what we eat, drink, celebrate, or recreation and days of rest. Why? All of these are merely shadows of the complete provision we now have in Christ, if indeed we remain connected to Him. So, in a very real sense, I can say: Only God can judge me.
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Colossians 2:16-17 NIV
Am I using my energy, intellect and emotion to connect more closely with God or am I judging others?
God, as this day begins- I realize I have responsibility to others and to say “Only God can judge me” is hyperbole. I want to make it my goal to be pleasing in Your sight first and foremost. So, I ask again today, that I would be filled with the Holy Spirit who leads and guides me, amplifying every human effort I make, imparting the very character of Jesus to me. In each meeting, every document drafted, in every phone call, would You empower me with spiritual wisdom and understanding so that every moment is productive and nothing is wasted. Help me see who to reach out to and love in Your name. Amen.
