One Thing Against You

MyKingI know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false; and you have perseverance and have endured for My name’s sake, and have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Revelation 2:2-4

Jesus told a frightening parable about sheep and goats. In the end, two things were apparent about true believers – they actually obeyed Jesus and knew Him personally. This is what it means to be saved. I love how Dr. Samuel Lockridge stresses the importance of knowing Him in his amazing address: My King!

Notice that the believers in Ephesus were doing well in a number of ways. They received commendations. But they also received a strong condemnation and a stern recommendation to repent.

Do I know Him personally? Yes. And it has made all the difference.

Lord, I know that the deeds, toil and perseverance for Your sake will count for eternity. Help me always remember that it only counts because I know You and am motivated by Your great love.
