Not about Buildings

As He was going out of the temple, one of His disciples *said to Him, “Teacher, behold what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!” And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another which will not be torn down.” Mark 13:13

Jesus ushered in a whole new way of worshiping God. And He wasn’t too concerned that temple worship was coming to an end. As a matter of fact He told his disciples that a new time was coming where God wanted people to simply worship Him in Spirit and in truth.

A pastor friend said “if you are going to build for the short term, build programs. Medium term, build buildings and if you want to build for the long term (eternity), build people. Great advice. Am I too hung up on buildings and the method we go about worshiping God? Or have I boiled it down to the essence – worshiping Him in Spirit and in truth? I am a big fan of how we collectively worship at Crossroads. And the church is not optional, its essential. But, I can take a deep breath and remember that its not about buildings.

God, I praise You for the wonderful buildings we have for ministry and creative worship. Every light and speaker are a blessing to make the gospel heard and seen. Thank you that apart from it all, its You working in hearts that really matters.
