Not a Bummer, at All

BummerFor this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 1 John 5:3-4

The first epistle of John concludes with a chapter about one proof regarding just what the love of God is. Namely, John says that those who love God and their Christian brothers, keep Jesus’ commands. And His commands are not burdensome. In other words “its not a bummer” doing what Jesus says. Its actually a blessing and feels good. He further reminds every believer that our victory has been won by Jesus, not ourselves. Our part is faith. A faith not to be underestimated in its power, for this is the victory that has overcome the world. Our faith is not the secret ingredient, its the object of our faith (Jesus)!

How do I feel about Jesus commands? Do I love them or loathe them? I love them. Though I lived a good part of my life contrary to them, once saved, I have come to cherish what Jesus commands.

God, having been made right in Your eyes by Jesus Christ, I find myself desiring what He wants and commands. And I thank You that the Spirit of God abides in me, both motivating me toward the love and commands of God, while empowering me to live them out!
