I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals.
And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?”
And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it.
Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look into it; and one of the elders *said to me, “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.” Revelation 5:1-5
In the revelation given to the apostle John, he finds himself weeping because no one is worthy to open the book. What book? We will soon see what book and its significance. But, for whatever reason, he knows it is of profound importance, yet no one is worthy to open it. Why? It contains information about the inadequacy of every man and the sin record that would prevent him from doing something so holy… as to open the book. But wait, the Lion from the tribe of Judah (offspring) and the Root of David can do it! How can someone be simultaneously the offspring and root (predecessor) of David? Remember what Jesus said ‘before even Abraham, I am’. Jesus could trace his lineage back to David and even to Abraham and even to Adam. But who created Adam? Jesus. Therefore, he is both the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and the Root of David as well.
What does the book of deeds say about my sin record? More importantly, is my name written in the Lamb’s book of life?
God, thank You that You wrote me name in Your book of life. I will not have to see my sin record applied against me, for it was laid on Jesus upon the cross. May the freedom from the penalty of sin motivate me to love and good deeds born out of my love for You. You know that many people are on my prayer list at this moment. I want to bring my mom to your attention and ask that the details and schedule for treatment get set. Would you honor our heart’s desire for complete healing. Lead us to Your provision. Amen.
