Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one. I Corinthians 8:5
Paul’s comments to the Corinthians church remind that love is more paramount than knowledge. Both are important. On the subject of eating meat sacrificed to idols, I am reminded that there really in the end is no such thing as an idol. In other words, for a Christian, an idol holds no power. On the other hand, because someone’s conscience could be wounded if I totally ignore the reality of idols used in the world, I should be careful about offending another Christian.
Is there any liberty, not just food, that I am enjoying at the expense of another man’s conscience?
Lord, only You can reveal to me if I need to express more love in this area, and subordinate whatever knowledge I have. Oh God, You know it all, yet you are so gracious with me. Help me be like You.
