Near Or Far?

I made a decision to follow Jesus in 1980, some 41 years ago. There have been seasons when I have been very close to Him, and others when I followed at a distance. Its when we are distant that we run the risk of denying the very One we love and who has saved us. When the patterns, habits, disciplines (or lack thereof) place us far from God, we might even find ourselves saying it out loud “I don’t know Him!” Can you imagine? You may never get to that point or be faced with such fear and confusion as Peter, the disciple. But, ask yourself, as I am doing, ‘What does my lifestyle reveal how about how close I am to God’? Let’s resolve to stay near to Him, following closely, no matter what the cost.

Now they arrested Him and led Him away, and brought Him to the house of the high priest; but Peter was following at a distance.  After they kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter was sitting among them.  And a slave woman, seeing him as he sat in the firelight, and staring at him, said, “This man was with Him as well.”  But he denied it, saying, “I do not know Him, woman!”  And a little later, another person saw him and said, “You are one of them too!” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”  And after about an hour had passed, some other man began to insist, saying, “Certainly this man also was with Him, for he, too, is a Galilean.”  But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about!”  Luke 22:54-60 NASB

What is hindering a closer walk with God? Is it confession, repentance, forgiveness, fear, or something else that I need to initiate?

God, as this day begins- You have provided everything I need for this life and to live it in a godly way. For that I am grateful. I want to walk closely with You, hearing Your voice, sensing Your presence, and knowing Your will. Would you forgive me of my sins daily and I acknowledge them and allow You to transform my thinking and heart.
