Mystery

God works in mysterious ways. That’s for sure. But not completely. Have you ever had a young child ask you “why” only to discover you didn’t have an answer? Oh, I have. There are many unanswered questions in this life. Live long enough and you will ask God plenty of “why” questions. Why did that opportunity not come to pass? Why did this relationship dissolve? Why did I lose this loved one, at this time? He has chosen to leave some questions unanswered and allows for life to contain mystery. But, understanding of God’s plan comes when we look to Christ. By Christ, I mean- Jesus Himself, His life, mission, love, etc. But, I also mean- Christ as “Savior” who embodies God’s redemptive eternal plan for us that is centered in His love for us. When you know you are loved, you can bear the losses and mysteries of life a little bit better.

I want you to know how much I have agonized for you and for the church at Laodicea, and for many other believers who have never met me personally. I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:1-3 NLT

What mysteries am I dealing with right now? How could I understand what is happening in light of God’s eternal love and the reality of the life beyond this one?

God, as this day begins- I am thinking and praying for comfort for those precious people (parents) I know whose children preceded them in death. What a horrible mystery and loss to bear. Would YOU, as only You can, meet their deepest needs today. Buoy them up, carry them along, and may they sense Your great love in the middle of unanswered questions. Amen.
