My Trophy Wife

The second most important decision I made in life was asking Maureen to be my wife. That important decision was second, only to choosing to follow Jesus’ teachings and dedicating my life to that pursuit. Deciding to marry her and set the course of our lives together has brought blessing upon blessing. I wouldn’t say she is a trophy wife (that has other connotations), but she certainly is a crown upon my head. And yes, people think she looks much younger, that’s for sure. Solomon contrasted the wonderful nature of an excellent wife and the blessing she brings with one who is shameful and who makes her husband feel rotten inside. This is only one of many comparisons of the consequences of our choosing good vs. evil, speaking uprightly or perversely, thinking justly or listening to the wicked. Let’s thank God for our excellent spouse today!

An excellent wife is the crown of her husband,
But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones.
The thoughts of the righteous are just,
But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.
The words of the wicked wait in ambush for blood,
But the mouth of the upright will rescue them.
The wicked are overthrown and are no more,
But the house of the righteous will stand. Proverbs 12:4-7 NASB

In what ways can I show appreciation to my wonderful and lovely bride? How can my thoughts and words be directed toward righteousness?

God, as this day begins- again its a day of corporate worship. Thank you for our home church, the fellowship, mission, love and joy. May You and Your Name be glorified in every way and in every aspect of our gatherings. Inspire our senior pastor as he share Your Word. Thank you for the excellent wife and partner on this journey of life. She truly is a crown.
