Monogamy, Not Monotony

monogamyDrink water from your own cistern and fresh water from your own well.
Should your springs be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets?
Let them be yours alone and not for strangers with you.
Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth.
As a loving hind and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times;
Be exhilarated always with her love. Proverbs 5:15-19

I love this passage from the Bible. When, I share it at wedding ceremonies the part about ‘let her breast satisfy you’, often gets a laugh. I go on to say that certainly this speaks to the physical intimacy of marriage, but also it speaks to far more. I turn and ask the groom, ‘how is it you will be ‘exhilarated always’ with her love? How, after five or ten or twenty years will you still be excited about this woman? The answer… as you continually discover greater aspects of her Christlike character. You don’t need to go anywhere else. Drink from you own well!

What have I discovered lately about my wife that makes her even more dear to me?

Lord, I look at Maureen as one of the greatest gifts ever in my life. Please continue to reveal Yourself to me, through her godly thoughts and actions. I am blessed. And she is never boring, that’s for sure.
