Mixed Up Blessing

Now it came about, when Isaac was old and his eyes were too dim to see, that he called his older son Esau and said to him, “My son.” And he said to him, “Here I am.”  Isaac said, “Behold now, I am old and I do not know the day of my death.  Now then, please take your gear, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me;  and prepare a savory dish for me such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, so that my soul may bless you before I die.” Genesis 27:1-4 NASB

On his birthday, my son Kaenan could have mom cook anything he wanted. He would often choose ‘chicken adobo’- a Filipino recipe. Everyone has a favorite meal. Jacob asked his oldest son to make his his favorite meal, not because it was his birthday, but because the end of his life was near. It’s a sweet moment, a noble gesture, and it will all be ruined by the family’s signature sin- deceit! Abraham told the 1/2 lie to Pharaoh (she is my sister), Isaac did the same with Abimelech (she is my sister), now Rachel will disguise Jacob as Esau to steal his blessing.

What patterns of sin in my life and family need to be broken?

God, as this day begins, we gather as a church online and in person. Would you inhabit the praises of Your people. Thank you for the churches in Corona. Bless them. As we pray for Brian and Becky today… please move mightily with healing.
