Mary-ology And Its Proper Place

mary jesusWhile Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed.”
But He said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.” Luke 11:27-28

Jesus was complimented from a woman in the crowd. Maybe she was the first advocate for women’s liberation. In her admiration for Jesus, she called everyone’s attention to His mother. Certainly someone as wonderful as Jesus, must have had a blessed mother that bore Him, nursed and nurtured Him. While that is most likely the case. Mary is to be recognized and beloved. More than the one who cared for Jesus, we should desire to be the one that He is causing to be ‘born again’ and nursed and nurtured by His Word. That is the higher priority and proper focus.

Do I have a proper balance of reverence for what God has done in the past, while focusing on the present?

Lord, I marvel at the power of Your Word. Jesus, You are the One who sets the right priorities in my life. Thank you for giving me the proper balance of reverence for the past and focus on the present. May today be a day of worship for each in our family where You are first and foremost in our hearts.
