Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”
Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” 2 Samuel 9:7-8
David woke up one day with it on his heart to honor his commitment he had made years before to his friend Jonathan. So, king David went against the practice of wiping out all the relatives of a previous king. Instead, he showed honor to the descendants of Saul (especially his grandson Mephibosheth). Because Mephibosheth was lame, made it especially touching that David treated him like a son of his own. The Bible says that love is patient and love is kind. 1 Cor 13.
Is there anyone I have forgotten to fulfill an act of kindness? What resources has God made available in my life to deploy for His name’s sake?
God, am I holding back any kindness due another? I know You have given me time and wealth and energy. Remind me when I forget to fulfill the simple acts of kindness that could make a difference in someone else’s life. I am looking forward to this day. Please take care of my mom at her doctor visit today. Please remove the negative influences in my daughter’s life and thank you God for being patient as we wait together for her to turn her heart and back to You.
