Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you. 1 Timothy 4:12-14
Timothy receives instruction about the importance of living his life as a minister as an example. Paul understood that the power of the gospel coupled with the obedient lifestyle of the pastor sharing the gospel would make all the difference. Timothy’s ministry and ours should be known by our priorities and behavior. Paul advised that we set the example in the way we talk and conduct ourselves, with love, faith and purity, these being the benchmarks of spiritual maturity, regardless of our age.
Do these qualities mark my life? Is my lifestyle and the way I talk and conduct myself reflect the gospel of Jesus Christ?
God, in this season where I feel a great deal of pressure, I need You. I do pray that because You dwell within me by Your Spirit, that my speech will be sweet and my conduct filled with love, faith and purity.
