BobGoffHe said, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” Genesis 22:2

The first use of the word “Love” in the Bible is almost halfway through the book of Genesis. Perhaps God was waiting for the perfect word picture to express the most important concept in the Bible. Ephesians says that everything we know… from creation to salvation was “because of His great love”. The first command recorded in the Bible is “Let there be light”, which is a metaphor for love. God could have spoken everything into existence by saying “Let there be love”! After all, what did Jesus mean when He said “I am the light of the world”? He is the express representation of God’s sacrificial love.

In what way has the love of God changed my life? Would others think of me as being a “light in their world”? I believe to some degree I am reflecting the love and light of God.

Lord Jesus, remembering this old story that illustrates the wonderful love of God, I appreciate again what You have done for me on the cross. You illustrated the greatest love of all, by laying down your life with me in mind. Oh, I thank you. May I today, walk in such a way that love is illustrated. I know what love is. Let me show what love does.
