Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:15
When a person intellectually comes to the place where they agree Jesus is the Son of God, the Bible promises something amazing happens; God takes up permanent residence in them. What?! I mean, how is that even possible? But, it is. It all seems to be centered around the central quality of God Himself – love! So, I accept that Jesus Christ, the Son of God who came in the flesh (in the appearance of a man), lives a sinless life, dies a substitutionary death, rises again for our justification, and all of this framed up in the context of God expressing His love for us (even while we were yet sinners). And as a result, I now live in a love relationship with God, where my life is primarily defined by love, and God lives in me.
This is a mind blowing concept that must be very foreign to the person who is apart from Christ. Is it real? Is this what I am experiencing? Yes! I really do sense God’s presence in my life. He prompts me by the abiding presence of His Spirit, gives me thoughts and feelings beyond my own, sometimes a word, others times knowledge, even a picture in my mind that at the moment makes all the difference in a given situation.
God, I thank you for Jesus’ life, message, and purpose. Oh I am grateful that based on love, You have invited me into this new way of living. Even after 30 years now, I look forward to everyday with You. I hope You do too!
