There is a great divide in America today about the value of keeping the law. Many are ready to abandon it altogether, while others of us, strive to uphold the rule of law. Some examples are obvious- certain factions of political parties advocate for rioters, looters, and arsonists and bail them out of jail, tens of thousands of felons released early on their sentences in California (so called criminal justice reform), hundreds of thousands of foreigners (illegal aliens) encouraged to cross our southern border. The other side (where I tend to find myself politically) advocate for peaceful protests, but never violence, fulfillment of jail/prison sentences by criminals and the payment of restitution to victims, and a complete southern border wall (good fences make good neighbors). During Solomon’s reign he understood the difficulty in maintaining order in society. He warned about the results of abandoning the law. We should take heed today!
Those who abandon the Law praise the wicked,
But those who keep the Law strive against them.
Evil people do not understand justice,
But those who seek the Lord understand everything.
Better is a poor person who walks in his integrity,
Than a person who is crooked, though he is rich.
He who keeps the Law is a discerning son,
But he who is a companion of gluttons humiliates his father. Proverbs 28:4-7
Having sworn an allegiance to the Constitution of the United States, will I raise my voice and advocate for law and order? Am I as concerned about being a law abiding citizen in the kingdom of God?
God, as this day begins- I pray for our elected leaders, please bless them, especially those I did not originally vote for. Work in their minds and hearts and impart to them wisdom and favor as they serve our nation at the highest levels. Impress upon them the need to enforce the laws that exist, re-write those that are contrary to Your will, wisdom, and common sense. In due time, promote those who are godly. For me, I desire to be a law abiding citizen of heaven. Prepare me fully for my eventual home. I pray for those three people who need Your attention and healing today: Janice, Pat, and Alberto. Work within their bodies and restore them, O Lord. Amen.
