Knowing Him

Reading the BibleWe know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. 1 John 2:3-6

The great claim of Christians for 2,000 years is that we have come into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. “We Know Him.” The evidence of knowing Him is a changed life. We obey the Word of God and love reigns in our everyday interactions with other people. Later John will say, we keep His commands and they are not burdensome. We live like Jesus did. Amazing.

Is it true? And is it true of me? Does my life look increasingly similar to Jesus’ life?

God, I have come to know You. I don’t say that in a prideful shout, but a quiet whisper… recognizing that I want to know You more. My life reflects to a small degree the vast love and light You have shed upon me. Oh may I today be obedient and radiant as I hear Your promptings, remember Your commands, and faithfully serve You. I thank You that You, Jesus are my Advocate.
