Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 2:5-8
I heard about a child that wanted to make cookies and substituted salt for sugar. When you make Toll House Chocolate Chip cookies its best to follow the instructions and use the right ingredients. The apostle Paul tells us what ingredients to add to our faith. And when these are part of my life… and growing, I will be useful and fruitful. Imagine how great our world would be when we all are living by faith in God and adding to our lives moral excellence (virtue), knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love. Wow!
How am I adding these ingredients to my life? What’s the recipe I am following?
Jesus, You my recipe. I am trying to model my life and add these things as I understand Your life and teachings. I feel useful and fruitful for You… I pray it is so. Is there any one of these ingredients that is lacking? As I review the list today, please bring to mind how I might grow. I know these are all key ingredients for a life pleasing to You!
