Lara Croft is a fascinating fictional character and the main protagonist of the video game and movie franchise Tomb Raider. She is a highly intelligent and athletic British archaeologist who ventures into ancient tombs and hazardous ruins around the world. But, Jesus is the original Tomb Raider. In the gospel of Mark, Jesus encounters a man of the tombs… who had continually sought more and more power, only to end up enslaved to the source of the power he craved (the demonic). Jesus freed him, and the told him to go share with his friends all the good the Lord has done. I think some of us spend time dwelling in the tombs (dead places of ambition, popularity, insecurities, and power) instead of being in our right mind following Jesus.
When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him. He lived among the tombs; and no one was able to bind him anymore, not even with a chain, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces; and no one was strong enough to subdue him. Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and cutting himself with stones. Mark 5:2-5 NASB
From what “tombs” has Jesus rescued me? How am I helping others get free from the dead places of their lives by sharing the gospel message?
God, as this day begins- I am grateful for that in a relationship with Jesus I can find freedom and life. May today, be one of those days, filled with love and life and light. Please help me reach out and love others in Your name and may I share with friends ‘the good things the Lord has done for me’!
