It Fell Upon Him

weight of sinSurely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.
All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way;
But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. Isaiah 53:4-6

The penalty for my sin fell upon Jesus Christ. In God’s cosmic accounting, He placed the sin debt I owed upon Jesus and credited His righteousness to me. The prophet described the gruesome transaction hundreds of years before it happened. Jesus, bore my griefs and sorrows, He was smitten, pierced through and crushed. He took the chastening and scouring that I deserved.

Am I fully aware and grateful for what the Lord has done for me? Does my life reflect it?

God, as Easter approaches I am reminded today of what Jesus endured for love’s sake, even as Isaiah foresaw the events. Thank You for sending Him as my Savior. May my life today reflect the gratitude and honor due His name. I know what should have fallen on me, has fallen upon Him.
