Is My Body a Temple or Playground?

I remember years ago, pastor Greg Laurie reminded us that “your body is a temple, not a playground”. Yes, we nodded. Then he added “until you are married, then its both!” Now that’s funny… and true. God is making us Christians, collectively into a spiritual building (more like distributed condominiums) in which He dwells. God is ‘in us’. What a marvelous mystery. What makes us a temple is that He is present. We worship Him then, in what we say, think and do. The goal of the Christian life is to be like Jesus in word, thought, and deed. As we exemplify Christ we really are that holy temple of God. We ought to play and enjoy recreation (especially nature), but not be consumed with hedonism and self pleasure. If we see ourselves as a playground and not a temple its easy to get caught up in earthly distractions without consideration of our heavenly calling. Let’s remember our body is a temple. For you married people, its also a playground!

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?  If anyone destroys the temple of God, God will destroy that person; for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 NASB

Would others consider me holy by observing that which I say, think and do? Is God on display as my source and goal, motivation and destination?

God, as this day begins- I enjoy the life You’ve given so much! I smile continually because of Your goodness, even in the midst of difficulty, chaos, and pain. I want to be holy (set apart for Your special use) today. Lead and guide me into all that I do. As I deliver a Happy Birthday card to Jean who turned 96, I pray she would feel appreciated. Help me prepare for our family vacation. Thank you that Keanu @kanoob is flying in tonight. And thank you for the wonderful playground that is my lovely bride of 34 years!
