Last Time Water, This Time Fire

Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.
While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease. Genesis 8:20-22

When the flood subsided, Noah worshiped. Without a direct request from God Noah sacrificed and gave an offering to the Lord. It was pleasing to God… and God declared His intention for mankind which was a further extension of His grace that followed the great deluge and judgment. We live in that season of God’s grace. But, one day He will judge the earth again. Last time water, this time fire. (2 Peter 3:6 “But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men”.) Meanwhile, let us share the grace of God will all we know so that reconciliation can occur and the judgment to come will pass over many.

How have I appropriated the grace of God into my life? Am I sharing it with others?

God, as this day begins, may You show Yourself to be our righteous judge and also gracious heavenly Father? Thank you that we live in this era of grace brought forth by Your Son Jesus. May we share it with others. Thank you for giving my mom energy and strength. Would you sustain her and the others who are facing illness and disease. I pray as well that many will find their way to church this weekend and discover that You love them and have made a way for sinners to know You, a holy God.
