Immediacy

My life right now is such that I get distracted, interrupted, and delayed fairly often. Maybe in our busyness we are all a bit like that. There are some things in life that require our immediate attention- food cooking on the stove, appointments that cannot be changed, and most importantly, our response to the gospel of Jesus Christ. In his account of Jesus life, there is an “immediacy” to all that is happening which indicates the importance of Jesus’ ministry and teaching and our response to it. I wonder how many have put Jesus on the ‘back burner’, thinking- ‘later in life, then I will become religious or make a decision for Christ… yes, at the 11th hour, then I will receive forgiveness of sin and seek Him’. I have good news and bad. He will accept you at the 11th hour. (He is not willing that any perish but all come to the knowledge of repentance). But, many who were waiting till the 11th hour, have died at 10:30. Today is the day of salvation, now is the acceptable time. Notice how the disciples responded with “immediacy” and do the same.

As He was going along the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will have you become fishers of people.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. And going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, who were also in the boat mending the nets. Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and went away to follow Him. Mark 1: 16-20 NASB

What priority is God and the gospel of Jesus in my life? Does He receive the immediate attention of my thoughts, energy, and resources?

God, as this day begins- (and continues), my only regret is not deciding to follow You sooner. I pray that as we celebrate Keanu’s 30th birthday that he knows he is loved by family and friends. And as Kai and Kasey enjoy their 11th wedding anniversary- may the bless You God for the life they have built together. Everything is sweeter with You, Jesus because profound purpose accompanies every season and occasion of life. May You receive my attention with great immediacy!
