Imitation

My grandson Avery imitates me at times. If I sip my hot coffee and then let out a “aaaahhh”. He drinks his milk and does the same. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. He wants to be like his papa. In the same way we are encouraged to be like Jesus who is our model in all things. When we imitate Him, we are imitating God because Jesus has showed us most clearly what God is like and not like. Three attributes are contrary to His nature and character: sexual immorality, impurity, and greed. I hope my grandson sees instead that I am in a loving and affectionate relationship with my wife, pure in thought, and generous. The gaze of my soul will certainly draw me forward into righteousness or unrighteousness.

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. But sexual immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness or foolish talk, or vulgar joking, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know with certainty, that no sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, which amounts to an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Ephesians 5:1-5 NASB

How can I imitate God and be rid of ungodliness? What has my attention and affection today?

God, as this day begins- I am focusing upon You and the life of Christ. I want to pursue what is good and pure. So, I am setting my gaze upon the life of Jesus with the intent to imitate Him. As I think about the ministry opportunities today, I invite You to lead and guide me in every way.
