When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:36-38
In the movie “Sixth Sense”, a boy has a unique ability or perspective, he sees “dead people”. Jesus saw people lost, harassed and helpless. He had the answers to their physical infirmities and more importantly, to their spiritual needs. I wonder if the Pharisees saw people like this? Jesus told His disciples to pray that more would see people this way and enter into God’s shepherding service. Soon they would themselves!
How about me? How do I see the people around me? Am I moved with compassion to meet their needs and share the gospel with them? Yes, that is how I feel and try to live my life accordingly.
Jesus, help me today see each I meet and those around me as You see them. Let me be Your healing hands and messenger of hope.
