I Fought The Law

But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted. Ephesians 1: 8-11

Understanding how to uphold God’s holy law and to appropriate His grace is a big part of Christianity. The apostle Paul instructed Timothy about one of the purposes of the law. He said its for the unrighteous, lawless and rebellious. Hmmm, (that’s what each of us once were). So the law, showed us our need for a Savior and forgiveness. The purpose is not for condemnation, though it will have that effect on the unrepentant. Timothy, Paul’s understudy was reminded that some will misuse the law. We should be careful to avoid that pitfall.

How have I responded to God’s holy law? How have I appropriated His grace?

God, as this day begins- I am reminded of my need for a Savior. I now live by the law of the Spirit. Thank you for saving me and placing within me a desire to fulfill the law of love and the ability to do it empowered by Your indwelling Spirit.
