The western world is descending into chaos and lawlessness. There are a number of reasons. This is the unfortunate fate of free societies whose people reject God (see Psalm 2). It will be ours in America as well. The greatest gift God gave His people when they left Egypt occurred fifty days into the journey at Mt. Sinai. He gave them God’s holy law. Like guardrails on societal living they presented a way of life that would prevent the Israelites from straying so far from God that they wouldn’t recognize His Son whom He one day would send into the world. The guardrails of the law were a constant support, though by design it is inadequate to deal with the deeper issue of sin within the human heart. That could only happen with the transforming power of God, the Holy Spirit. Jesus reminded His followers that “I did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it”. Oh that we would return to God and His Holy Law today. Because the law coupled with God’s love and grace are the essential supports of any free society.
You shall have no other gods before Me. Is my life a fulfillment of God’s law or a rejection of it? How has the “law of love” changed me and world in which I live?
God, as this day begins- I am reminded of the rampant crime wave sweeping our nation. Oh we need You and Your Holy Law. more than ever. May Your Spirit draw lost people into an attitude of repentance, turning the hearts of fathers to sons, and sons to fathers. I pause to pray for the hurting families I met with last week. Touch their hearts, draw them close, heal their hurts. I pray for wonderful Doris, please restore her 100%, help the doctors understand what is happening in her. Comfort her children Bonnie and Damon. I pray for Fran, that You would provide the place she should live next. Show Your goodness and mercy and provision.
