Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. James 4:7-10
I was reading Mathew Henry’s commentary on this section of scripture. Masterful understanding of God’s Word and God’s ways. He says that a man who ‘weeps for his sins now, will not weep for them in eternity’. In submitting my life to God, there actions I take and responses He makes. I present my hands and heart (as double-minded as they often are). I adopt an attitude of misery and mourning, allowing my joy to become gloom over my sin. This is humility in the presence of God. He exalts!
Lord Jesus, I give you the works of my hands and the intentions of my heart this morning, fully submitted to You. Period.
